What if we got rid of money altogether and people simply kept making and doing the useful things that everyone needs? The Resource-Based Economy takes this idea seriously and, in fact has been put into practice to different degrees from the early 1900s, beginning with the Antigonish community in Nova Scotia.


The Occupy movement was strongly attracted to its life-enhancing aspects, and RBEs have been covered in the Venus Project and the Zeitgeist Movement. It's a fascinating story with lots of possibilities, well explained at:


Yet it is not always seen as a complete solution. Do you think a national-plus-local currency scheme would do better? What about a gift economy? (We're piling on the ideas tonight.)

Is some kind of measure of value ultimately needed, even if it is only a bunch of bits in a computer? Or sea-shells, as has been done before?
