Design Solutions - Jacque Fresco




The simplest type of bathroom: Shower, sink and toilet bowl all moulded into one system. There's no hardware on the sink, just a slot an water comes out as a ribbon. It would cut the soap off the hand and use about 1/6 of the water. The waste water from the sink fills the water closet and we flush the toilet with that water. So instead of telling people to save water, build a system in !!

Indigenous Systems Reduce Greenhouse Gases


So Sensible !!  

"... During meetings in Turkey this week, [a 115-country group] is discussing a strategy that it thinks could help protect biodiversity: A return to indigenous systems of farming and managing land...  One example of a traditional farming technique that the group hopes to resuscitate: the ancient Chinese practice of rearing fish in rice paddies. Adding fish to a paddy helps manage insect pests without the need for pesticides, provides natural fertilizer for the crop, feeds birds and other wildlife, and produces a sustainable meat supply for farming families..."

In Singapore, the challenge of feeding a growing population is pushing the concept of urban farming to new heights. A super-efficient vertical farming system is producing greens for 5 million residents.



"Can we supply enough food for everyone on the planet?" is a question plaguing leaders around the world. In Singapore SkyGreen offers one example of how this might be possible, "not just technically, but economically". By increasing their food security while reducing the impact of food production on global climate change, SkyGreen is 10 times more productive per square foot than conventional farming.

What if we got rid of money altogether and people simply kept making and doing the useful things that everyone needs? The Resource-Based Economy takes this idea seriously and, in fact has been put into practice to different degrees from the early 1900s, beginning with the Antigonish community in Nova Scotia.


The Occupy movement was strongly attracted to its life-enhancing aspects, and RBEs have been covered in the Venus Project and the Zeitgeist Movement. It's a fascinating story with lots of possibilities, well explained at:


Yet it is not always seen as a complete solution. Do you think a national-plus-local currency scheme would do better? What about a gift economy? (We're piling on the ideas tonight.)

Is some kind of measure of value ultimately needed, even if it is only a bunch of bits in a computer? Or sea-shells, as has been done before?
